Vocabulary Haul – Post by Ineptidude

I’d like to start something new on this blog. Every week, I will post any new vocabulary I learn from any of the languages that I’m working on, along with a definition of the word. Hopefully it’ll help readers in their own language learning journeys!

Japanese

  • 同系 – (na-adjective) related
  • 不思議 – (na-adjective) wonderful, wondrous
  • 食う – (verb) to devour, to eat (has a more uncivilized connotation; this word would only be used in regards to an animal)
  • 教徒 – (noun) a follower of a religion
    • Ex. キリスト教徒 – a Christian
  • 秘密 – (noun) secret
  • 告白 – (noun) confession
  • 吾輩 – (noun) I; me. Has a somewhat smug, self-important connotation. Compare to 「俺」, which is more assertive.
  • 祈る – (verb) to pray
  • 方法 – (noun) direction; way
  • 教える – (verb) to teach
  • 秘める – (verb) to hide
  • 安全 – (noun) safety
  • 家族 – (noun) family

Telugu

  • పాత్రము – character
  • రంగము – theater, stage, scene
  • పెద్దహాలు – chamber, great room
  • ద్వారం – gateway
  • మిసమ్మ – slang for a Christian woman
  • దూరవాని – a very proper word for a radio

  • 문법 – (noun) grammar
  • 혹시 – by chance
  • 사람 – (noun) maybe
  • 공부하다 – (verb) to study
  • 이다 – (verb) to be
  • 왜국 – (noun) foreign country
  • 언어 – (noun) language
  • 창세기 – (noun) Genesis (book of Bible)
  • 기독교 – (noun) Christianity
  • 사과 – (noun) apple
  • 학교 – (noun) school
  • 학셍 – (noun) student
